Mineral Make Up

The latest craze in make up is minerals…..although funnily enough, they have actually been around for nearly 40 years, it’s just that they’re hitting the headlines more now.

What are they? Well they are exactly what they say they are – they are crushed minerals. There are loads of different brands doing it now but essentially pure minerals are exactly that, pure natural minerals with no synthetics, additives, chemicals or other unnatural products – however, despite the names and claims, not all of them are 100% pure so you’ll need to check but they are the latest when it comes to skin cosmetics which can deliver fabulous cosmetic results.

Many fans of mineral make up will tell you that the way the light reflects on the skin is far superior to any other previous type of make up they have used. At the same time particularly helpful to people who have badly behaved skin, mineral make up doesn’t contain ingredients such as fragrances, binders, synthetics dyes etc which previously may have caused skin irritations which again makes them an attractive option.

The majority have minerals zinc oxide and titanium dioxide which both have anti-inflammatory properties and are naturally calming to the skin, these ingredients not only offer additional sun protection, but also handy if you suffer from inflammatory problems such as rosacea or acne.

Previously, we have learned that “natural” products aren’t necessarily ones which deliver the results we need – but that isn’t the case with mineral make up. You are absolutely in control of the product, often a loose type of powder which you warm/buff into the skin. You can get as much coverage as you like or as little as you like to just even out your skin tone. Another great thing about mineral make up is that your skin remains looking like your skin as the play of light is so natural, you don’t end up with a flat colourless blanket which needs life painting back on to it!

I always hated the feeling of liquid or powder foundations which left my skin feeling heavy and clogged and I have found that I even forget I am wearing make up when wearing minerals. The pure mineral ranges often leave your skin feeling light and fresh, literally as if there is no make up on it but yet you get as full coverage as you need and amazing colours for your eyes.

The most important thing with minerals is to remember they aren’t powders. Don’t shy away from them because you worry they will leave you looking like Elizabeth I, that’s not the case in the slightest. They naturally warm into the skin as opposed to sit ON the skin which is why you end up with such a flawless finish that canĀ  make you look almost airbrushed!

If you are one of those people who have given up on make up for reasons such as it never looks real, you don’t get enough coverage, you have uncomfortable skin reactions, you find that nothing stays on your skin, or perhaps you have found that the effect of menopause has meant that your make up migrates….?? if any of those sound like you, then try mineral make up. I can’t tell you the amount of people who have rediscovered make up and confidence because of the ease and gentleness of them.

…the added bonus being, you can be as flawlessly natural as you choose or as outrageously made up as you like – minerals offer you full control of your make up, your face and your skin!

Hi Pipa, You are so right about mineral make up. I haven’t worn make up during the day for many years.I always felt too made up for day time and didn’t know how to tone it down,so never wore any. I’ve just got a mineral makeup basic kit and it’s fabulous. Had a swirl, tap and buff before going into work last week and a couple of people said I looked well and another knew I looked different, but couldn’t work out what I had changed….had I had a fringe cut in? No,I’ve always had a fringe. Was my hair shorter? Nope hair is the same. Great result for me as I wanted to look natural, but look and feel good too. Mineral make up stays where I put it rather than sliding down my face as the day goes on and it only take 5 minutes to swirl it on. Happy days!
