Thinking Time

Take 10 mins just to think to yourself....

How often do you sit and think? Actually sit and ponder? About anything – or about something! We’re so attached to phones with Facebook and Twitter these days that how often when you have 3 minutes to spare do you check Facebook rather than stop and smell the roses? We’re sacrificing crucial thinking time, mental space to ponder, develop and consider. Whether it’s thinking about the next meal, a new recipe, a new client or where to go on holiday – how much time are we investing into all these processes? Or are we flying by the seat of our pants and hoping for the best? I’m not convinced that “what will be will be”. I think that’s a cop out for people who have lost the ability to take responsibility for what happens in their life. Actually what will be might not be, if only we thought about it properly to start off with.

Perhaps it’s worth thinking about fixing some time for thinking into your day? I’ve found sitting in the garden with a cup of tea like my Mum used to do, rather than multi tasking and being all things to all people (come onĀ  girls, we’re all the same!) to be really fruitful. Just 10/20 minutes in the day to think for myself in a quiet environment really enables my mind to settle and in turn gives birth to some pretty fab decisions and helps with time management as priorities naturally slot into place. We pride ourselves on being multi taskers but actually, are we benefitting from juggling furiously?

Fried brain would be on the menu far less if we could put some thinking time into each day.

Take some time out every day to think, to ponder – even if it’s to ponder something relatively pointless, just start doing it so that the habit can grow and you can flex those thinking muscles so that when the bigger decisions come along, you don’t throw your head in the sand and hope for the best. Equally, you’ll find your head will just feel a whole load clearer because you’ve allowed yourself to hear your own thoughts – something we often forget to do.

Finally, this isn’t all about at home either – our work environments and productivity would improve and increase dramatically if we could see the value in this investment.

People who think for themselves become powerfully motivated to be who they are!
